I am again asking for ANY ideas on how to get my hood open on my 41 Special Deluxe. The cable pull inside the car does nothing...I believe the cable inside the metal jacked is disconnected from the hood release. I cannot find a way in...I am considering drilling a hole in the upper inner fender to get to the release, but would prefer NOT to. This is a pretty pristine car...
There is a post here -> https://vccachat.org/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/393146/Searchpage/1/Main/61005/Words/%2Bhood+%2Brelease/Search/true/re-1946-hood-latch.html#Post393146 that talks about ideas. Most are preventive, but might get some ideas.
I have a 41 Master Deluxe and this may be unique to mine. I have had to adjust the piece that holds the spring in place with a large screwdriver. I found out the hard way that it does unscrew. If there is anyway to turn this in your car can you unscrew it and open the hood? Or at least make a gap big enough to slip any other tool in to pop the hood. There is a hole in the lower piece that almost lines up. Unfortunately there is a body piece that may have to be removed to get at that. Harbor Freight sells long screwdrivers that will reach that for cheap.
I have found that having an old car is a constant project that is never done. I think that is a good thing. Keeps me learning new things. Having two from different eras is just a form of higher education.
There might be a jam nut buried inside the coil spring that locks the pin against the mounting bracket to prevent rotation. If so you might be able to slip a thin open-end wrench in between the coils and loosen the nut.
