Are New Departure bearing numbers the same as Delco numbers? I am looking for a replacement bearing for a C1 Corvette idler arm. The number on the inside race is 5206. There is also a number on what looks like a seal that covers the ball bearings. That number is 5506. From the research that I have done I can't tell if the delco and new departure are the same. New Departure was changed to Hyatt in the 60's so maybe that number is what I need to be looking for.

I know that I can buy the bearing from a vendor but I would like for find a local source.

Thanks, Pete

If you take those numbers to your local parts store and talk to the oldest person you can find, you should get the right bearing.

New Departure and Hyatt bearings were part of GM and sold by vehicle dealers and United Motors Service/ACDelco. They are the same bearings and in later years the New Departure and Hyatt brands were transitioned to Delco.

New Deparure bearings are ball bearings.
Hyatt are roller Bearings.
The numbers on tthe bearing are for that part of the bearrig
Cone, cup, and separator
All were divisions of GM

I guess my wording wasn't clear but yes the type of bearing is different between the New Departure and Hyatt but both brands transitioned to the Delco brand. So like part numbers are the same in either the NDH or Delco brands.

FWIW most places that sell bearings can cross reference the ND number. When I was looking for wheel bearings for my 38 my local auto parts store cross referenced the New Departure numbers to National 01 and 02 if I remember right. If it was me and I wasn't sure of which number is which I'd pull the bearing(s) and take it with me to the store.

I matched all the bearings (wheel, gearbox and differential) for my 38 at my local bearing store (they only had to order 2 or 3, the rest he had on the shelf) here in Aus so my guess a US bearing store would be able to do similar.
