I am restoring a 1953 3600 Truck chassis for a friend. Someone painted the engine Orange like the early V8s. A lot of the paint is falling off so I need to repaint the engine. Can someone let me know the proper color for a 1953 Chevrolet 235 engine in a 3/4 ton pickup. Did they use the Blue Streak Blue engine paint in the trucks or is it still the old Chevrolet Gray? Thanks,

First a 1953 3/4 ton truck would have had a 216 engine - also a 1 ton and 1 1/2 ton truck.
All truck engines in 1953 were painted the "Old Chevrolet Gray".
The first and only 1953 235 engine was the blue Power Glide engine.
All base 6 and 8 cylinder truck engines up through 1966 were gray.

Thanks for your response Gene. I understand it had a 216 but at some time in the past a 235 was installed. The owner wants to keep the 235 because his father put it in, but he wants it to be the same color as it would have been from the factory. I will source and paint it gray. Thanks again,
Ron
