I have a 235 engine. The numbers on the pad behind the distributor are : 042281{or I}9F54X Behind the starter : CON 1 C15 4 Head number 3835913. I bought this as a 1955 -235. Is this correct? I found the head number as a 235, but can't find anything on the block numbers. Bill Pierson

First this a good choice as it will have the old style water pump. There was actually no differnce between a standard shift car and truck engine in 1954. The differences were bellhousing , truck had hand choke etc.
If you install it do not foget to remove the pilot bearing....aand the front mounting plate motor mount design is different.
Disadvantage of that engine is that it has solid valve liftes which makes it sound crappy with Power Glide.

If condition is unknown I would have it overhauled or rebuilt and switch the front mounting plate from your 1950 engine and replace the timing gears in the process.

Engine was in a truck, the owner wanted a v8. Compression is 125 on each cyl, oil pressure is 35. I will start it before installation.
