I have never seen a manual or tech sheet. Essentially the O4 DS is two Zenith O-4 carburetors with a common float bowl.

Thanks Dave long time no see. I have most of the booklets on the other Zenith carburetors used on Chevrolets. Don't rebuild many of them compared with the Carters.

I have not seen a Zenith booklet on the O4D, so I also would like a copy.

I checked all of the Zenith information that I have; and I can supply a copy of the parts illustration page, and the parts numbers page from the Zenith Service Manual.

Several decades ago, when I was younger and thought I could do anything, I made one of these carburetors. I had a complete one for samples, and had new castings sand casted which I then machined. Like Chip stated, most of the internals are simply 4-cylinder parts, but two of them. From memory, the float is larger than the 4-cylinder float.

The Chevrolet V-8 is basically two 490 engines with a common crankshaft. So it was not a stretch to make a casting that utilized a common float and two attached 490 carburetors.

Jon is correct that the float is larger then the Zenith O-4 as it needed essentially twice the gas to feed both sides. I haven't measured it but am thinking that the float might be about the size of the Zenith L-4 float used in pre-1916 Chevrolets. Might be able to remember to check tomorrow.

Yes it is similar to the size of the L4 I didn't have the L4 I have handy to compare, but I needed a screw so stole one off one of my extra 04 for my 15 Baby Grand. I just had the car running for a few minutes last night. Unfortunately with going out of town for work it'll be on the back burner for a couple days.

The part number for the float in the O4D is C-307. This exact same float was used in the L4 and L5 carburetors.

The O3 1/2, the O4, and the O5 all used the smaller float with part number C-259.

Thanks carbking, great news is last night we mounted the temp gas tank until I can restore the original one and we got the carb adjusted great and had to make adjustments to the timing rods as they were not set up right. The car runs beautifully and I drove it down the road (I posted videos on facebook of it running on the VCCA page) now time to start detailing it up.
