Hi All ! I heard Sta-Bil doesn't work?? Is there any thing better than Sta-Bil? I`ve noticed the fuel smells like Kerosene. My cars sit for 8 months at a time. Thanks

I use the Marine Sta-Bil (blue) and also put 4 ounces of two cycle oil in the gas when putting up in the Fall. When you put in the additives run the car long enough for the gas to run through the carb.

I use StaBil. I also have read stories/posts/reports that it does not work.

I have never done nor have I seen a report on a real controlled test. By that I mean an actual side-by-side comparison of multiple types of vehicles and powered products after long term storage.

What I do know is that I have no fuel system issues as a result of long term storage when I use it. My cars start and lawnmowers start as expected in the spring and the snow blower starts at the beginning of winter.

I don’t use staBil in any thing, the old cars I don’t use ethanol and I fill the tank before I park it for the winter. I usually try to drive them enough to have to fill with gas 2 or 3 times during the summer. My 47 is going on the tour in Ohio next month and will get gas for the first time since last September. I haven’t had any problems this summer for few times we’ve driven it. Small engine’s I my or may not always fill the tank. I’ve been doing it this way since the late 80’s and not had any fuel problems.

To save carburettor issues after long term storage is to park the car and close off the fuel supply and let it idle until it stalls when the carb is empty, no need for any fuel stabilizer.

I have used MACs, NAPA brand. I add it anytime I fill up my fuel cans. I only get the non-ethanol gas. Fill the 41 from the same cans that I use for the mowers and the generator. Just add a 5 gallon can when the gauge reads half and have not had an issue.

I have found that having an old car is a constant project that is never done. I think that is a good thing. Keeps me learning new things. Having two from different eras is just a form of higher education.

I agree that the major concern is evaporation of the fuel in the carburetor. That tends to leave a "varnish" type coating on everything including the passages, even blocking some of them.

Like I said I have no proof that fuel stabilizers do or do not work. I have never tried not using Stabil.

I use Star-tron. My gas in metal cans last 2 years in this desert climate. Try it, you will like it. Hendo
