I’m going through a recently-acquired ‘51 with a manual trans.
I pulled the speedometer driven gear from the rear part of the trans and saw not much fluid in there.
The manual says to fill it with 1/2 pint of gear oil.
Would that fill up to the hole where the speedometer driven gear is installed, somewhat like you would fill up to the plug hole on the front part (gear box)?

Thanks

It should not be fi;lled up to the speeo gears. If you do t will work its way bACK INTO THE TRANSMISSION. The gear oil in the transmission finds it way into the rear housing and finds the proper level.

You only need to check oil level at the plug on the side of the gearbox itself, the speedo drive is only topped up if drained but not up to the speedo drive level.
