The top cup of one pushrod broke off. It appears that two pieces broke off, about 2/3’s of the cup. I’ll try to attach a picture. The pieces weren’t in the top of the head near the broken pushrod. They probably were small enough to slip down around the pushrod. This pushrod location is not next to one of the two drain holes between the hydraulic lifters into the oil pan.

My question is, should I remove the lifter side cover plate to see if the pieces are there?
And, if they’re not and they went through a drain hole to the oil pan, does the 1962 235 oil pump have an intake screen on it?

This engine was rebuilt about 1000 miles ago and I don’t want to drop the oil pun.

Thanks for any help,
Matt

If it were mine I would not worry about the pieces. Yes there is a fine scren on the oil piak-up.
What I would worry abou tis the other eleven push rods. Looks like you have some odd aftermarket push rods. I knew another pesron that had them and a push rod borke like that evey few hundrd miles.

Thanks Gene, do you have a recommendation on where I should buy pushrods? To be safe, I think I’ll replace them all.

Here's a link to The Filling Station. You might also check your local NAPA.

The original ones were all in one piece.
