Anyone have any hints on how to remove the camshaft ? push through from the back? Turns freely but will not move. Thank you.

it has to come out the front of the block. You need to remove the radiator and possibly the grill.

Get a shop manual to show the details.

You might even want to invest in a camshaft removal tool. You need to support the camshaft and prevent damage to the bearings while you slide the lobes across them.

First remove the two bolts that hold the retaining plate to the block. Then remove fuel pump amd valve lifters. then it should pull out from the front with ease.

Thanks Gene.

This was the secret. the 2 retaining bolts (screws) are hidden behind two aligning holes in the gear. remove those two bolts and the cam slides right out the front. no puller needed.
