Tbe automotive epoxy primer I want to use does not list rubber as a substrate. What to use?

Im not sure, but figured Id post something as this forum is DEAD with info. The old timers with knowledge are either gone, dont do the internet thing or too crotchety to respond. Good luck with your build!!

I don't have any experience but would expect that a primer used on the flexible bumpers in the 60s would work. I have painted a couple of wheels with rattle can paint that so far are okay.

Another option is to ask the people at a auto paint shop or supplier.

If that doesn't work the contact DuPont, PPG or other paint manufacturer for their recommendation.

This person ask this same question in three different places on this forum. In one of then I answered and provided a link to the G&D he was looking for. No reply from him!

My word. The lack of response could be due to someone with that knowledge hasn't seen the thread. Or my not have personally painted a steering wheel (like me, the shop that did the restoration painted mine). Even those in the know rarely read every post in every forum. Lack of an answer doesn't correlate to lack of willingness to help. I hope you have a better today than your yesterday.

I painted my 32 steering wheel with spray can primer and enamel paint so I can't suggest a primer . If you do a google search there are many articles about painting steering wheels including those of hard rubber.

Did the wheel. Turned out killer origial 1940.
I posted complete step by step in Body section.
