Is there any rubber or material used between the engine and bell housing mounts and the frame? I don't recall any years ago when the engine was removed from my sedan. Seemed to be metal to metal.

It should be metal to metal and tight. Years ago I put rubber between the engine mounts and the frame. The vibration of a mostly unbalanced engine was not tolerable.

Would you recommend new bolts and nuts on the bell housing to frame? Could use higher torque then.

The original bolts (and front stud) have holes for cotter pins so tightness is a little variable.

I believe those bolts are 7/16-20 with castle nuts.

The bolts on my bell housing to frame are drilled for a cotter pin, but the nuts are not castle nuts. Just plain hex nuts with lock washers. Could the cotter pin hole be just a safety to keep the nuts from falling off if they came loose. I do not believe the engine was ever removed before.

I wouldn’t know for sure as my own 31 was “engine out” when I bought it. The two mounting bolts were in a bag labeled and the castle nuts were in the bag but they could have been added by someone. Many things can happen to 90+ year old cars over the years.

What I know about it, my engine was not removed before. It has the bolts drilled for a cotter pin, plain hex. nuts with lock washers, and the cotter pins of course. The 1929-1932 Master Parts Price List shows bolt, lockwasher and hex. nut 7/16"-20

Pretty sure the bolts are just with lockwasher and hex nut. Most likely the castle nut and cotter pin was added by nervous backyard mechanics. Not necessarily a bad idea though.
