I thought that was a special mirror so you could see the stop light if you had a visor on the car.

Hi Rusty

I thought the accessories Chevrolet sold so you could see the traffic light colors mounted on the dash and looked like these, but maybe I'm wrong?

A Traffic Light Viewer is what you're thinking of. I have one on my 38. The Passing Eye mirror was an aftermarket accessory that allowed the driver to see forward, around large vehicles, without having to pull into the oncoming traffic lane to see if it was clear to pass. IMHO it's an example of P.T. Barnum at his best but a lot of folks want them to dress up their ride.
