Possibly a dealer emblem? That era vehicles didn't use adhesive emblems. Holes were drilled and speed nuts or barrel nuts were used to hold them on depending on whether the hole was accessible from the back or not. I worked in the body shop of three different dealers early on and put a lot of them on. Cars were normally done on the deck lid. I never personally put one on a truck so can't say for sure but it's possible.

I noticed something today that bolsters my thought that the holes are for a dealer emblem. A friend has a shop in town and is currently working on putting modern running gear under a Viking truck. We were sitting there talking when I happened to notice the dealer emblem on the fender of the truck. Picture below.

Attached is a link (I hope it works) to the Tech Tips section on Stovebolt.com. The section on “identifying advance design trucks” indicates 1949-1950 hoods had two separate badges. I wonder if the hood could have been changed?Hope this helps. Mike
