I am reassembling my distributor, and I found that if I slide the Spark Advance lever up too far it hits the grease cup cap. Is there a clearance that should be kept between the Spark Advance lever and the bottom of the Distributor Body? The photo shows the lever with minimal clearance on the grease cup cap. Am I possibly missing a spacer between the lever and the body? There are 3 nubs on top of the lever that seem to be there for a purpose.

Your help is always appreciated!

Hello Bama31,
I looked at images online of 1931 chevy distributor installed on engine. It appears that the bracket that clamps and holds the end of the Advance Cable housing, just aft of the distributor, dictates the levers height. Maybe you could test install your distributor to see if this is the case.

Maybe this photo will help. Check condenser position. Dave

Thanks for the replies. I will definitely see how it looks fitted on the engine, and then tighten the lever. I should have thought of that myself, but I always get great advice from all of you all, so sometimes I just ask before I think.

OK, so I found out that I have the lever located incorrectly. I just need to move it around to provide clearance. The lever actually does fit up against the bottom of the distributor body. Thanks again.
