54 BelAir auto transmission. It seems that when I put the car in gear transmission fluid will come out the filler tube. It will make at least a 2 foot diameter puddle or more. It might because I’m on a pitched driveway that it happens. Is there a gasket or washer that is supposed to be in the top of the dip stick?

Things to consider. First is tthe engine shoud not be run when PG is in Park position - excpt for brief amount of time. Add fluid with engine running and in neutral. Check fluid level on level ground, engine running and with fluid hot as it expands when hot. It is OK to have the fluid near the add mark. Do not overfill.

Thanks. I’ve done all of that and I’ve found a part listed as a 1” seal for the filler tube. I bought a 1”od o-ring for the handle end of the dipstick and a 1”id o-ring for the top of the filler tube. Hopefully that will stop the mess!

There is a gasket for the side cover and an O ring on the tube where it slips into the cover.

note that the dip stick cap is what vents the transmissiom and should not be air tight. The only time the fluid RAISES TO THE TOP IS WHEN THE CAR SITS OVER WINTER AND THE CONVERTER DRAINS DOWN. Starting the engine will refill the converter but not if in the Park position.
