Is there a concensus on the best oil to use in the stovebolt 6 engine in my Confederate? And the best brand and weight oil for the transmission and differential?

Most of us use regular 10w-30 oil in the crankcase. The original specifications call for 20 weight that is no longer available. 30 weight is not recommended except for sustained temperatures above 90 degrees.

A high viscosity transmission fluid is best. 600 weight is the modern equivalent. It is available from Model A suppliers, The Filling Station and some jobbers. Some use 140 weight with a little grease added to increase the viscosity. Lower viscosity fluids can be used but tend to leak more.

The rear differential uses the same as the transmission.
