Hello, I think the hood in this picture is a 1946 hood instead of a 1947. I have been fighting and loosing getting the hood latch to work correctly could it be becuase the hood is a 1946.
I think it is 1946 because it has the openings for a chrome molding that is not on the 47.
So it shouldn't be the hood is wrong do either of you have any suggestions on making the hood latch work? It is either adjusted so loose the hood sits up an inch or two higher than it should and will open, any lower and it will not unlatch
Since this is not the correct hood for your '47, I suggest you find a correct one (at some point) but please do not throw this one out. It will fit my '42 as well as '46s so there is a market to sell it when the time is right.
It seems to line up correctly and I have played with the adjustment of the pin. The issue is if I put the pin in a position where the hood closes all the way the latch will not release the pin. Even if the pin is still way to high and the hood sits up by about 1/2 inch it will still not open. The latch mechanism is opening fully.
I took the grill out so I could look at the latch from underneath and the pin seems to be too close to the top to open. I cannot move the latch plate up anymore. So I am going to adjust the hood again. The way I read to do it was to put a 2x4 under the front of the hood with the hinge bolts loose without the springs on the hood. once everything lines up tighten the bolts from the inside. Then open the hood and tighten the rest of the bolts.
