Put new wood floor in my 32 car. The old one had delaminated and fallen apart. Trying to determine how the speedometer cable goes from transmission to under the dash and attach to the speedometer. Can anyone provide info or pictures regarding speedo cable routing?
Thanks

looking at the firewall from the front there is a cut-out just to the right of where the starter linkage cut-out is located. The cable does not go thru the toeboard but just between it thru the notch in the firewall. It is then anchored to the inside of the firewall . Some where on Chat I posted a diagram of the firewall layout. If you can not find it I may be able to do it again.

The diagram is posted on your thread for firewall wiring 4-1-23 #480306 . You might want to print it out for future reference.

Yes. Had it printed and labeled each hole on the firewall but that one kind of disappeared behind the engine when I installed the body back on the chassis. Thanks for the reminder. Removed the toe board and got the cable routed correctly I hope. Seems kind of a sharp bend between transmission and battery.

"Seems kind of a sharp bend between transmission and battery." ??? The cable should not be anywhere near the battery.

Cable attaches to the passenger side of the transmission. Battery is under the floor on the passenger side right beside it. There is about a 6" space.

On my 32 the cable attaches to the drivers (LH) side of the trans. It works fine so I think it's correct but i have not heard of the cable being driven from the RH side. If that's common then it's news to me, but every day I learn something new. Hopefully one of the folks with more experience than either of us will chime in.

Left hand side would make more sense for routing the cable but the fitting is on the right side unless this is reversible? I have another transmission in storage - will check that one to see.

Checked my spare transmission. Speedo cable on the left as you said. Removed the fittings and re-installed mine from right to left. It is reversible. Not sure why mine was on the right. Maybe it is designed that way for right hand drive? (England, Australia etc?). Like was mentioned prviously - we learn everyday. Thanks for the help to clear this up.

Thanks for the update and good to know. When I installed my cable I put an "L" shaped brkt on the frame where the center of the loop was and secured it with a cable clamp.
