It has been about 60 years since I removed an oil pan on a 6 cyl Chevy. I know I have to remove the motor mounts and jack it up some. Any thing else besides taking all the bolt out?

On a 1949 -1954 you do not raise the engine but do need t unbolt the center steering arm and drop that down, Three bolts. top two somewhat difficult.

Thanks, Gene. I am 84 and I was in College when I took the last one off. I removed it easily and found the knock in my engine. It was completely rebuilt by a reputable machine shop about 5000 mile back. The knock came on suddenly at 60 mph. Number 6 rod was the culprit. The dipper on the rod had broken. The dipper was in the oil pan with the rest still bolted to the rod. Strange but true. I don't know why. I am now looking for a later 235 if anyone has a spare.

Did it harm the crank shaft journal?

I haven't miced it yet. It had been 10/10. The journal doesn't look good, it is black and has some scratches. the rod cap is worn to the extent that there is no groove in the cap. I will take the engine out and take it to a machine shop.
