What is the best thread sealer for head bolts that screw into the water jackets?

Here in Aus GMH used a special sealer but Permatex non hardening is just as good, I dont use the little brush supplied but dip the lower 4 or 5 threads into the sealer. Never had any leak afterwards. Tony

Loctite 1158514 is made specifically for that task. I've not used it but most likely plain old plumber's pipe dope for liquids & chemicals would probably work just as well.

I use Permatex No. 3 or Aviation grade. It lubricates as well as seals. Is it necessary not for some engines but is for others. Why take a chance? Besides the threads need to be lubricated to get the proper torque.
