I’ve replaced the gaskets and seal on the collar housing the u-joint assembly and propeller shaft. Do I need to do anything special to add fluid to this area or is it just add transmission fluid?

The shop manual says after servicing the U-joint to fill the housing with one pint of transmission fluid through the speedometer drive opening. It doesn't specify standard or automatic transmission. The PG supplement says lubrication is "pressure from transmission" but is mute on whether supplemental fluid is added after replacement. If it was me I'd start the car in neutral and let it run for a while so the pump in the transmission can fill the U-joint housing then check the transmission fluid level and add if necessary. If I'm off base someone will correct me.

There is nothing special that you have to do. There is a metered hole in the front yoke of (BOLT) in the U joint and the PG fluid will find it way to the U joint area. It is a small amount so will have no effect on the PG fluid level.
