I am trying to find out more about my 1938 chevy.
Style - 38-1201
Body - S 514
Trim - 6
Paint - 230
Serial Number - 3HB04 22423

A little back story- I grew up around the antique/hot rod world. My dad bought this car the year I was born in 1991. He had plans to rebuild it and turn it into a hot rod but other projects got in the way (1968 Mustang). My dad passed away suddenly before he could really get this project going and it has now become my form of therapy to try to deal with this huge loss in my life. With that being said I might have a lot more questions to come once I hit to tough spots.

I appreciate any help or information that is given!

The S before a chassis number is only for chassis assembled in Australia, USA built vehicles do not have any chassis number stamped. Only details are the aluminium tags attached to the firewall, plus the engine number and casting numbers provide more details regarding dates of manufacture.

They started the count at 1000 so it would have been the 21,423rd built. I still make that mistake myself at times. To the OP you can get a lot of info here: https://www.gm.com/content/dam/comp...mation-kits/chevrolet/1938-Chevrolet.pdf

22423 body number would be the 21423 th
Master 2 door with trunk body built at that Fisher Body plant.
Master trim number number refers to the interior upholstery. For a Master there was no options, just tan mohair.
