Does anyone understand numbers on a 35 Standard? My 35 Standard Coupe does not have a Serial Number Tag. I'm trying to come up with a tag number. I know the first numbers should be 5EC05. But not the next four or five. I know it was built in June at the Kansas City Plant. If I have the Transmission serial numbers and rear end numbers will that help? Were the serial numbers random or specific to each model ie. 4Door Sedan, Coupe ect. I know I may never get the exact number but one that is close is good enough so I can make a Tag. Did the last four numbers begin with 1001 and would the build date help in determining the Serial Number? Does anyone have a list of Serial Numbers for 35 Standards?

There is no way to find the actual number including the ways you inquired about but You could use this formul.

There were a total of 207976 1935 Standard models made. 32930 of that nomber were coupes. Determine the production plants in 1935 and divide the number of coupes . The 1935 production ran from Dec 15 1934 to mid October 1935, Your car would run just past mid production year.

As an example if there were 10 plants and about 30,000 Standards made at each plant and your car was made just over 1/2 of the pdoduction year the serial number would be about (serial numbers began at 1001) your serial number would be in the 15,000 range,.....EC 5 06 15,000.....if there were 10 plants.

Wow, that helps a lot. So it looks like the number would be 5EC06 and six more numbers. Does that look right?

Yes, and if it were mine I would use 014777 for good luck. The 5 for the assembly plant, EC for 1935 Standard , 06 for month of June and the 014777

I know I'm late to the party, but thought I'd add the following info.

Plant #5 (Kansas City) made their first 1935 Standard 5EC12-1001 on December 18, 1934. They made their last 1935 Standard 5EC09-24823 on September 7, 1935. That works out to 264 calendar days at 90.2 Standards cars per day.

There were 32,193 Standard Coupes made out of 207,976 total units that means the Standard Coupe was about 6.5% of total production.

With Kansas City making 23,823 Standards total and if 6.5% were Standard Coupes (Model 1207) then they made about 1,550 of them or 5.8 units per day. So by my calculations your Coupe built in May (05) would fall in the serial number range of 12,177 to 14,883 with a Fisher Body body serial number between 793 and 957.

Note, there were no zero's (place holders) in front of any serial/unit numbers in 1935, so it would look like 4321, not 04321.

If all the Standards were sequentially numbered between the numbers Mike gave above, what difference does it make if it is a coupe or other body style for extrapolating and picking a number to match the production date?
Jon, If Gene's number is a good one, just drop the zero from the front and that should make it fit Mike's criteria.

Mike B's theroy was exacting BUT there is no way to be sure. One plants or area may have made, sold or taken more or fewer orders for coupes. Demand was different in various areas, There could have been parts shortage for vaious body styles from time to time etc.

Some body PLEASE tell me what difference the body style makes for picking a random number (from all the available numbers) to match the manufacture date of the car.

Mike, It doesn't make any difference, I was just having fun showing how someone could get close to the May production number with the info we have today. Gene's calculation works just fine and his explanation is valid as well. The main concern I have with this is down the road any made up number could cause questions and confuse future historians, especially if someone else already has that number.

Jon, What's your Fisher Body plate 'BODY' number? I'm curious, does it fall into the May production date using my formula? How about the engine serial number...is it May as well?

Body number is K3113. The Engine has been changed. I know the frame was built in June.
