Trying to put my 29 steering wheel back together and thought I better ask what are the tricks to get the alloy hub back together. With the rubber spoke covers I don't believe I can close it up. I put it in a vise with a protective shield and still no go.

What have you done to get these back together?

Thanks

Dave

Hello Dave39MD,
Are your covers offered by Gary Wallace? You may wish to contact seller for advice. Are these covers made with the front face and left and right sides but without a back side? How are they applied/installed to stay? In regards to the alloy hubs, does the top hub clip over and clamp/capture the bottom alloy hub to secure the hub assembly? If the hubs cannot reach each other now because a spoke cover has been placed between the spoke and alloy hub, you might give thought to an exact-o knife trim job at the outer edge of the alloy hub assembly. Let us know what you discover on this issue, I did not know that this product existed.

I did buy a set from Gary but after some digging I found a better looking set in the parts stash that came with the 29 basket case. I was thinking of trimming the rubber covers but I don't think it would look right at the hub. I may have to.

Thanks for the reply

Harry, The covers, cover the whole spoke and are a very tight fit. I used Dawn and a lot of pressure to get them on. The sides of the top hub that faces you when driving bend tight around the hub and catch the bottom cover tabs. In theory.

Thanks

I was informed there is a truck and passenger car versions. The truck was smaller in height since they did not have the spoke covers. The two top covers I have measure 13/16 to 7/8 in height. Can someone that has one together measure the height of the alloy top cover between the spokes?

Thanks

The more I thought it through I must have car covers since there was extra room at the spoke openings. Finally got them together without any major damage after removing some rubber from the very end of the spoke covers and cleaning up a couple of welds on the wheel hub. Needed three or four hands. Thanks for the help!
