54 Chevy belair
I rebuilt the carb and need some advice. The car seems to idle okay but when I drive it and pull my foot when coming to a stop the engine dies. It starts again. There also seems to hesitate when I first accelerate. What am I missing?

The hesitation on acceleration from idle is an indication of a little lean mixture. Try reducing the bleed air by turning in the idle screw. Do about 1/4 turn and then test to see if it is improving. That can be done in the shop or garage. Once you get to the point with little or no hesitation stop and advance the timing a tiny bit. Then test drive to see if you have fixed the problem or are the right track. A large number of small adjustments is often better than small number of large ones. However, if you go 1/2 way toward a wall on each movement you never get there!
