I'm new to the forum... 1952 Styleline 4dr...6v system. I had it on the charger for about an hour, just to bring it up a bit as I hadn't started for a spell. I disconnected the trickle charger and gave it about six cranks but no joy. Reconnected the charger and went to try cranking it again when POP! Now there's nothing...no headlights, no nothing. I've checked fuses, reviewed the schematic...don't see anything like a fusible link or anything that might be a trouble spot. Anyone have any SUGGESTIONS? Ol Red

There are no fuses in the sarting system and fusabli links had not been invented in 1952. First I would test the ground and positive cables. They can look OK but have internal breaks. (this is from experiance) Next I would check out the starter switch and ammeter.....and the battery.

I would clean the battery terminals and the cable connections. Starting and then "dead" is commonly due to corroded terminal and/or cables.

Thanks, Chipper Confirms my suspicions that there was no fusible link because I couldn't find anything that looked like one. I will check battery terminals and cables. Ol Red

Thanks, Chev Nut, The starter switch going bad can kill the whole electrical? Lights and everything? Suggestions on testing it? Ol Red

I am not familiar with the '52 wiring. I know earlier systems have a lead from the positive post on the starter switch to the ammeter. It is a direct feed from the positive post on the battery.
Is it possible that there is too much resistance between the battery cable end and the wire to ammeter end? Maybe?

The battery is at 6.3v or so. It might be the starter solenoid?

Are all the battery, starter and ground connections clean, I have seen connections that look good but need cleaning to work. Tony

Thanks everyone...I checked and cleaned connections, dove under the panel, traced this wire and that. Then decided the next logical step would be to remove the solenoid. Reaching down there and clicked the dealie back and forth. Then something made me give the starter a try and v-room, we're in business. Somehow the solenoid was stick halfway and that kills everything.
