Did Delco-Remy, Ark-Les, or others produce a backup light switch (with a lever) that mounted under the dash, similar to the switches pictured in this post? If so, is there a part # associated with this "BACK" switch? Any other information that can be shared is appreciated. Thank you.

NO.....prior to 1942 a switch marked utility of that type was used for cars.
After that an automatic switch was used on the CAR shift linkage.
The 1949-`1954 car back up light switch attached to the top of the shift lever box under the hood where the two levers come out of. This switch would also work on 1948-1954 trucks with a column mounted shfit lever. To install the swich you also need the special lpng studs to replace the box cover screws.
Back-up lights were not availablr for 1954 and prior trucks.

Note - plug in top of box should be emoved time to tome and box fill with a soft grease.

Here is a "Back" switch I had/sold, but I am not sure what year or accessory it went to specifically. Hopefully someone else does

The responses are appreciated. Was the switch used in cars only those 2 years? Was it used with back-up lights? I will post in PARTS WANTED and just see what happens. Thanks.

It was those two years ONLY. after rthat they used an automatic switch on the shift linkage. If it says back it would be a back up lamp switch.

Side question...from your inital photos, what accessory was the "air" switch for? Heat would have been for any of the accessory heaters or defroster correct? So what was AIR for?

It was for the Harrison fresh air heater in my 1948 Chevy 1/2 ton truck. It is a 2-speed switch.

I found a working, used BACK switch from another VCCA member. It is a Delco Remy. As you can see, the lettering is worn thin. Nevertheless, it will be pressed into service. I am a happy camper!
