I’ve just got finished installing a 47-53 era pickup windshield by myself. It wasn’t to bad going on it solo.
The issue I have is that the rubber seal seems to be “short” in the corners. Also on both sides of the top of the divider bar, the seal does not lay flush so water tight it is not.
I believe the windshield is not original because it’s tinted and there are no markings etched on the glass. One thought I had was that the glass was cut from a pattern that was slightly off on size.
I used a lubricant to ease the installation of the seal to the body. I did not lubricate the glass when I put the seal on the glass. Afterwards, I thought it may have helped to allow the glass to “float” a little .
I have been told that the seal from Steele is the one to use. Quite a difference in price !! I got mine from Jim Carter. Made by Precision, it seemed like it was a quality piece.
Has anyone have a similar experience?? Is there a remedy??
Thanks in advance!!
