hi all, I have the four hub caps from my 49... they are in very nice shape, (few tiny pings) and good enough for me now. problem is the red is faded on two, and gone on the other two. can they be painted? any body have advise on how to restore them? thanks in advance. gene
they might own the company, but we run it!

Purchase a roll of real paint masking tape. With a bit of patience you should be able to mask off what doesn't need to be painted. Chevrolet red is available in "rattle cans" and would be a snap to paint with. Remove the tape when it begins to set up so you don't leave rough edges. Not a very challenging project.

I mixed a couple of colors of those little jars of Testor's Model paint together until I matched what was on my '37's covers and then just brushed it on with a good, natural bristle brush. Any paint that got "outside the lines", got wiped away with a rag & mineral spirits. Paint's been on there for a good 10 years now, at about 4k miles per year and still looks good.
