My dad restored this 26 Chevy roadster back in the 80's. I kept it running for many years, but it's been garaged for the last 5 years. I just got it running again, but backfires when I try to accelerate.

Here's a link to a video clip where you can barely hear the hesitation and a little pop when the throttle is advanced...

And here's a video clip of it running nicely at idle...

Any advice on how to get it running better?

The backfire is most likely due to lean fuel ratio or slow burning fuel/air mixture. My first suggestion is to buy a good aerosol carburetor cleaner and squirt numerous small squirts into every possible place. I prefer Berryman's B-12 but the Wal-Mart brand is good.

If that does not solve the problem. Double check the engine timing and strength of the spark. Modern gasoline burns slower so a few degrees advance will help. So will increasing the spark plug gap a little.
