Hello Everyone, I have posted this request in the "Parts Wanted", but thought I would add it here.
I am looking for the left rear door lock. Somewhere in the past the door handle was removed and I think the tapered retaining screw was lost as the threads are not damaged. A drill tipped sheet metal screw was used instead and the brass collar that the handle fits into now has a hole too big for a replacement retaining pin.

If it is a brass collar can you braze the hole smaller and then drill and tap it?

Hello Rusty,
In order to braze the hole, I have to remove the brass bushing, the lock mechanism is assembled with bent over tabs and I am reluctant to try and straighten them for fear of them stressing and then breaking on reassembly which means I would have to replace it anyway.
A friend of mine thinks he can make a sleeve with a tapered inner hole based on the retaining screw, which has a tapered shoulder.
The self tapping screw was just short enough not to reach the threads on the other side of the hole that the handle passed thru so those were not damaged.

i agree that it would be better if you could avoid flexing those tabs.
I know this sounds little off base. Is this an application where JB Weld might be strong enough?

I had the same problem when I got my 48. Someone used a regular screw. I ended up getting a new drivers door latch assembly, that was able to use the tapered screw. That would be my recommendation.

Hello Keith,
Thank you for forwarding that link. I checked it out. The part is $130, but the seller does not accept returns, so if it is wrong I would be stuck with it. I am going to try to fix what I have and keep the item on my watch list in case I can't fix it.
