My ign switch went bad. I installed just a normal switch, now it shows a heavy charge all time its running. I installed a new generator cutout switch but no change. With the engine off it will show a discharge with the lights on, running it still shows heavy charge? It is a 33chevy eagle CB , still 6 volt neg ground
Ideas or thoughts please

If it's a 3 brush generator, maybe you need to move the third brush to decrease the charging rate.

I doubt replacing the ignition switch would cause your problem providing you connected the hot wire to 1 side and the rest to the other side. I would be looking at the 3rd brush and or cutout for the issue.

I would be concerned about why the ign switch went bad and which happened first- a bad switch or an overload causing the switch to go bad. I would have the generator bench tested and go from there.
