Hello Hello: Does anybody have additional information to the brake adjustment procedure detailed in the original 1935/1936 Chevrolet Repair Manual or the book titled "Chevy Six-Construction and Restoration" by Victor W Page'. Ideally I'm looking for detailed description/photos and or you tube type videos illustrating the procedure. And any additional info would be most helpful. I'm a very senior citizen who can't get under the car anymore(no lift in the garage)and has realized it's time to let go of my 35 Chevy Standard to a new caring owner, if I ever can find one. It seems the coming generations have fewer and fewer car enthusiasts especially for antique prewar automobiles. I would like to provide as much best practice care info as possible to the new owner. I am afraid you will need to get under the car to adjust the brakes. A quick (but not comprehensive) method is to adjust at the wheels (the final adjuster) first though you do need to make sure you adjust all wheels evenly. The full method is to slack ALL adjustments off then adjust them back starting at the wheels, this equalizes the system. Tony
Thank you. Getting under the vehicle is my problem, that's why I decided it's time to re-home the vehicle. I'm just assembling as much maintenance info as I can for the future owner. Trying to give my 35 Chevy the best chance of a well cared for long future. Thanks again, much appreciated.
Lorenzo, I too have a 1935 Chevy Standard. I have owned it for almost 50 years and finally stopped driving it because the brakes were so bad. I decided to solve the problem. I started with new woven linings, then adjusted everything by following the instructions in the factory service manual. I have great brakes now and am kicking myself for not doing this years ago. If your new buyer has the regular manual, he should be able to tune his brakes for maximum performance.

I picked up some old stock woven linings after learning they were more effective on mechanical brake equipped cars. Original linings were woven but most later aftermarket replacements were molded. Several Chat members have purchased woven lining material from industrial supply vendors. You have to know the width and thickness as well as the total length required for your job. McMaster-Carr might be one such source. Perhaps someone will come along with additional info. Your car looks great!!
