'50 216. 12v. Stock, except for a split manifold. Carter W-1. Pertronix EI and their coil. Newish fuel pump. Runs great.

Lately, hard/won't start when hot. Cranks fine, just won't start. Gonna start with a plug change. Currently has R45. Is there an advantage to using the extended tip R45S?

And what else should I be looking at for the hard/ won't start problem?

The 45 S has an extended tip. These came out when there was a lot of lead in the gas causing a engine miss at high speed. Extended tip was said to burn off deposits better. I believe they were discntinued years ago.

What we found is the entended tip burnt holes in the top of the pistons on 235 engines.

The spark plugs are seldom a startng problem unless they are foulded with oil Etc,

I would try different starting procedures like not touch the gas pedal, depressing it slightly, Etc.
Also A problem with the Petronix would, can and often is the problem.

Sounds like a problem I had a few years ago Engine ran very warm and the car would start missing and when I stopped it would not start again , It was vapor locking. I purchased an electric fuel pump and that ended all my starting problems when hot. (ethanol was the problem ) No problem now with cold startups either. And no 45s plugs hood
