Where should this be wired to? The wire that was on it was connected to the side of the amp meter that does not go to the headlight switch. I would have thought that it should go to the same side as the headlight switch so that any draw would be measured by the gauge.

Also how do I remove this from the dash to better clean the contacts in it? I did not see a nut on it. We want to make it work just because it is there.

I have found that having an old car is a constant project that is never done. I think that is a good thing. Keeps me learning new things. Having two from different eras is just a form of higher education.

With a lot of them the outside body behind the dash would turn to remove the lighter, not sure on yours. Try turning the back while holding the front bezel. Not hard incase I am wrong!

As Gene noted the wiring is correct. The lighter draws a lot of amps but for a short period of time. In some cars the draw will peg the ammeter if wired through it.

I haven't thought this through but why not just wire it to the hot side of the ignition switch? What is to be gained by wiring it to the amp meter?

So what is the problem with that? (I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer when it comes to that "fig newton" stuff.) dance Agrin
