Has anyone converted their standard 6V headlights on a 1936 Chevrolet to LED? The headlight bulb socket on a 1936 is totally different than other years. The 6V LED bulbs being offered by the Filling Station will not adapt to the 1936 socket as far as I can determine.

You can get the sockets to fit the LED bulbs from Restoration Supply in California. The LED bulbs work great, very bright and draw a fraction of the power. I can’t seem to attach a picture here. If you email me, I’ll send you a picture of the socket, mbd97@aol.com.

My experience with LED headlight globes is that a match is brighter with 12v so doubt they would be any better on 6v. Most other lighting positions the LED system is by far better.

I have 6 volt LED headlamp bulbs in my 1935 Chevy Standard. They are a significant improvement over the original bulbs. I plan to install them in my '36 truck.

I believe that the 1936 car headlight sockets are different than the 1935 and the 1936 truck which leads to the probably of just changing bulbs.

I'm assuming the '36 Headlamp bulb is the type with the 3 pins. I believe they are called pre-focused bulbs.

I found an LED replacement for the 3-pin, flange mount, 2330 headlamp bulb for about $30.00 each. Here is a contact email address.

I also have a 36 Master coupe and want to swap to LED's but am unclear if I can run them of my 6V generator as my car is all original or will I have to use a alternator ?

LED bulbs use less current than a conventional incandescent bulb. Enough less that my dash lights are noticably brighter because there is more current available to them.

Thanks for the input. I have ordered and received the 2330 headlight bulbs. I plan to install them when I get the "36 out in the spring.

My experience with LED headlights is while they show good light in daytime I would not try to drive at night, very similar to holding a match out front.
