I have been told in another forum that a 40 radiator will not work in a 39. US Radiator shows two part #s, but the measurements are the same, and they also say the brackets are the same.
Hope someone can tell me why the 40 will not work. and can provide measurements of the 40.
I rebuilt a 24 Model T, and found that Henry used parts from different years, although the #s might be different.

If the brackets and dimensions are the same but the part numbers are different it may be the size and/or location of the inlet/outlet ports, location of the fill port, etc. Disclaimer, I have no first hand experience with either.

I believe that you asked this same question in the Mechanical forum. I doubt if the answer is different because the same people read all the Chat Forums.

Chevy would not have created 2 separate part numbers unless there was a difference. That might not be the answer you would prefer, but our collective experience has taught us that lesson.

Tiny is correct that the difference might not be visible unless you physically compare the 2.

I had a similar bad experience thinking I could put a ‘39 radiator into my ‘37. They were the same overall size and shape with the inlet and outlet in the same location. The difference was the fore-aft location of the side brackets and the hole pattern. I could have adjusted the hole pattern but relocating the brackets would have required unsoldering the tanks and brackets.

Thanks for the replies, I was hoping someone might have had personal experience with the 39 and 40.

My experience is that if the part numbers are different the parts are different.

The best way would be to get the 2 radiators side by side to compare.

I just looked at the pictures on the US Radiator website. There is a major difference in the style and location of the filler cap.
