I have several doubts regarding the correct gas cap for a 1935 Chevrolet Standard.
According to the 1929-1941 Chevrolet Master Parts Catalog, cap # 595857 is correct for 1933-1941 all (exc. DB, P, EB, Q, FB, R, GC, GD, GE,S).
Please see the attached photos of cap # 595857 and a comparison with a larger cap found in a 1935 Chevrolet Standard and also in a 1934 Chevrolet Master.
I have the following questions
1) Did cap # 595857 replace an earlier version of the cap which is larger? 2) Where can I find one of the the larger caps in NOS or excellent condition?
My 1929-1935 Master Parts Price List shows part number 372696 for '33 Master, '34 Master Town Sedan and Sedan Delivery, '34 Standard and all '35 Passenger models. My 1929-1936 Master Parts Price List has the same part number but simply lists 1933-1936, All. I assume they mean "all passenger", because this type of twist-in cap was not used on any 1-1/2 ton trucks of this period. I don't have a 1937 catalog but my 1938 shows the 595857 cap for all the aforementioned models plus some 1937 and 1938 cars and commercial models.
According to the information you provided, fuel cap # 372696 is the correct cap for all 1933-1936 passenger cars and it was replaced by cap # 595857 in 1937 or in 1938 .
I guess finding one of this caps (#372696) in NOS or excellent condition won't be very easy. I would appreciate any help in this regard.

* I guess finding one of these caps (sorry for the mistake)
The '36 catalog lists the diameter of the early cap at 2-7/8 inches. I measured a NOS 595857 cap at 2-7/8 inches. A closer look at the '36 catalog show overlapping applications for cap numbers for '33-'36 models. One for '34 DA (Master) measures at 4-11/16 inches. It is very confusing.
