The 1940 Special Deluxe was the first to have a lighter as standard equipment.
The lighter was a popular accessory before that and after that for cars that did not come with a lighter.

I have a 41 Master Deluxe with a lighter. Was this standard on just the special trim or possibly an option on the Master?

I have found that having an old car is a constant project that is never done. I think that is a good thing. Keeps me learning new things. Having two from different eras is just a form of higher education.

I have the socket. Will a 12v lighter from a recent car still work in it or do I have to find a 6v one? My car is still 6v. I am asking more to fill the socket than anything else. I could paint the lighter to match temporarily, looks better than the open socket.

First it depends on the brand of lighter. As an example for some years GM used both a Casco and Rochester lighters. They were both 6 volt and the hand part of the lighter would not fit in the other bands lighter well part.also the automatic pop out feature is controle by a thermostatic spring or retainer. The 12 volt would heat up much faster than a 6 volt.

So my reply will be do as trial only.
