Four years ago my family chipped in to buy me an expensive watch for Christmas. I used the money to buy a Seiko solar powered watch. Recently the watch started stopping at odd times. The jeweler where I bought the watch said it's the capacitor. I visited Seiko's web page to find out how long the capacitor is supposed to last. They say it should last 10 years. Their warranty is three years but I figured they might help with the cost of replacement if it's supposed to last more than double what it actually lasted so I sent them an email. I asked if they would cover the cost of the capacitor and I'll cover the cost of labor to replace it. The reply? Oh hell no, it's out of warranty. It's not a large amount of money, just principle. They brag about the quality of their time pieces and how long they last but aren't interested in standing behind one that falls short of that goal.

I miss the days of personal service. While we send more money to Wal-Mart or Walgreens to save pennies, the old mom and pop stores that gave us that personal service because they truly appreciated our business, disappear.

When my dad passed, we found some old photographic negatives from days long gone. I thought I would take them in and have prints made only to find out that the big box stores mail in the negatives and they would not be returned. The old full service film processing/ camera store closed when the owner died. I did a google search to find the closest old style film processing was 80 miles away.

I'm afraid the big convenience stores have turned out to be a Trojan Horse as far as society as we knew it went.
