We really don't have a forum specifically for this so I'll put it here. A friend owns an accessory supply business called Kool Rides. One item he has made and sells may be of particular interest to the folks with 54s. He has the taillight diffusers made to replicate exactly the factory part. To my knowledge he is the only outlet for this part. http://www.koolrides.com/store/product_info.php?cPath=2&products_id=688

another item in the same line is the complete red lens. i have them in my 53 ( 54 tail lights), they are a transparent red plastic smooth on the outside. you remove all the stock lens parts and this lens fits right in the bezel. i have 2 led bulbs the oem stop-tail and the back-up bulb both set up as tail-brake lights. real popular setup for the custom hotrod crowd. I've seen those. This thread is aimed more at the keep it original crowd as most of us here are. A lot of folks have had to go to alternatives like you mention because no one was reproducing the diffuser. I'm letting people know that's no longer the case.
