I purchased tubes recently for my 32 and settled for a 500/550-19 tube as I was unable to locate ones that were for a 18" tire. On a previous purchase I got a tube sized 450/500-18/19 from Coker . Neither of these were available from Coker when I called and checked on Ebay so I purchased thru Universal Tire. The tubes I received were direct shipped from Coker. Go figure!!

Hi Steve,
Weird. I guess it doesn't matter if the price was fair. Just wondering why you replaced the tubes. Leaking ? Safety issue ? My tires and tubes are probably 35 years old, hold air, have good tread, and no discernible cracking.
Cheers,Charlie

I too have replaced tires but used my very old tubes with no problems! If they are not dry rotted, why replace them?

I've been doing the opposite of Ed for the last 25 years.

I've kept tires on Lurch that date back to the mid-1930s (in keeping with his decrepit look), but I've put new inner tubes inside. I figure that if the tires (which were near petrified) could hold up, I'd be better off with a newer tube that actually contains the air.

Of course, I kept Lurch's speed to under 25 mph.

I replaced my ancient tires earlier this year. Now, the front tires are only 12 years old and the back tires are only 40 years old. ;-)

But, all have new tubes in them.

Of course, the fastest I drive Lurch now is only 35 mph.

Still having fun! Dean

Hey Charlie-when I first got my tires and tubes 22 years ago from Coker they sent the wrong tubes = offset stems vs center and I had a tire shop? mount them . I was at the time unaware of the issue except that the shop said they had a difficult time. One failed at the stem so far and another has failed due to rust pitting near the rim band. I did have all the wheels blasted and painted so no idea why it rusted but I now am blasting the inner portion and epoxy coating .

I guess you had no choice but to replace them. Epoxy coat should fix the rust pitting. I've been fortunate to have no tire issues. Worst thing, every few weeks the white walls was fade a bit. Brillo pads fixes that. yay

I love this discussion. Makes me feel better about running 65 year old tires! Never stored outside and spare has factory "nubs" I put in new tubes and bands on freshly powder coated wheels. I probably would not consider a long highway drive but don't think twice about around town driving.
