Boy.. I screwed something up, I think, by backing this bolt out that has a slotted screw driver head on it... located right under the oil filler tube, just to the left of the dip stick hole.... I started backing it out... but it just kept turning without coming out any further... so I pulled it out with my fingers... and it wasn't threaded into the block... it must have been threaded into something inside the block..!!! near where the pan meets the block, below the filler hole...... it was totally wet with oil.... I tried to thread it back into whatever it was originally threaded into... but it didn't grab ahold of anything inside there.... so Whatever it was holding inside.. has dropped into the oil pan.!!!
WHAT WAS THAT BOLT HOLDING INSIDE ...????? See photo of the 1/4" bolt & it's location...( screw driver pointing to it )

I think it is one of the bolts that hold the oil feed lines for the connecting rods to the side of the block.

It could also be a oil defector so oil doesnt splash up the breather tube, either way I guess the nut on the inside was not captive and as you suggest the only way to resecure everything is to remove the pan.

The 1934 engine does not have a deflecttor at that location. That was a new feature for 1936.

Well.. now that I have to drop the pan again... I decided to look into the possibility of buying/installing a gear driven oil pump.... a few of the suppliers sell them (if they can get them), for $360... that does not include the pickup screen or the pipe to the block.... But luck was shining down on me, and I found this complete kit, everything needed and included, on Ebay... for $119........ link below;
https://www.ebay.com/itm/374272291842
I do not know if there are detailed instructions that are coming with it... but could any of you give me simple instructions on how to remove & install this NOS pump...??? It will be here within a week...

I can;t find it on ebay but hope for your sake it is complete.

It should include thr oval 1939 sceen, the sheet metal housing the screen sets in, screen retainer wire, pick-up nozzel. formed pic-up line, and fittings.
If not a genuine Chevrolet pump the pump body is aluminum and may have age cracks.

To remove old pump backoff big set screw with lock nut and pull down. Jstaling new pum[ is easy and let me know when it comes.............I can not find it on ebay.
