. Does anyone know of a U-tube or other tutorial on how to dismount and mount Clincher rims? I know they are similar to bicycle tires but my fingers aren't strong enough to squeeze them off. Would a motorcycle shop be able to change tires? Where would I purchase the pry bar tools? My slim-jim punctures tubes. . . Thanks, . Lou . . .

Give Ed Archer a call. He has changed these type of tires for many decades. Also, here's a Google search for this info: How to change automotive clincher tireCheers, Dean

Lou, Put the tube in the tire, put a flap in also. Add enough air to give the tube some shape, but not so much that it starts to expand the tire. Make sure the stem does not hold the beads too wide apart to fit in the rim. If so, notch the beads enough so that you are sure it will fit. Start at the stem and INSTALL BOTH BEADS AT ONCE. Your tube is safe and you can use screw drivers, pry bars , or whatever you have handy to install the tire.

. Hi Dean & Mike, The existing tires were so hard I had to cut them off to avoid bending the rim. Now I don't have a spare. I'll try the plastic bag method for installing the new tires. They don't seem as flexible as the tires in the u-tube demonstration. . Thanks for the information. Lou

One way to make the tires more flexible is to leave them in the sunshine for a while.
Cheers, Dean

The first clinchers I ever mounted were new Firestone, 30 X 3-1/2. I didn't think I needed flaps so I mounted them (4) with none. In a short time I was having trouble and that trouble turned out to be the result of not using flaps. What I learned was that the tires were much more pliable and easy to work with, after just a few miles of driving. So, if you can figure out a way to drive on the tires for a while, before you mount them, it will make the job easier. Be sure to let me know your system when you get it worked out.

. Two of the tires I got with the 1923 cars were worn. I could not get the bead to separate from the rims, so I cut them off. This was a few months ago when the weather was warm. I got two "new" M Ward mounted tires with the 23 cars. They would not hold air so I wanted to install new tubes & flaps. I purchased 6 new M Wards tires from Lucas and 8 tubes & flaps. I took them to a tire shop with instructions to dismount them using their press. They said the tires were too hard to remove without bending the rim so they cut them off, I will try the plastic bag method to mount the 6 new tires when I finish painting the rims. Thank you both for the suggestions, . . Lou . .
