Hi group Does any one know if or where I can get a coil for my 1936 Chevy Master coup. It has the ignition wire coming out of it to the switch. I believe it is failing because when I reach 50/55 the engine cuts out, so I roll of the gas just a little and then back on and it picks up as if nothing happened. No popping back firing or any thing.
To test, just buy a 6V coil from AutoZone or similar, and wire it in to see if that truly is the trouble. If it is the coil this will keep you on the road until you find the stock type.
It sounds to me like you should consider a fuel problem. A bad coil usually fails when it gets warmed up and doesn't work again until it cools off. Good luck.
Is that pretty strait forward to do as I'm limited with my electrical. What about the wire coming from the starter switch ?
Both coils have 2 terminals that do the very same job, they are just placed differently. Look to see if there is fuel to the carburetor before changing the coil as mentioned.
When I run into this type of trouble I check by bridging open points with a screwdriver with the ignition switch on and see if a good .spark jumps from the end of the coil wire to ground. Check the point gap and condition of the distributor while in there. Then I see if there is gas if I have spark.
