My 1931 coach has an extra oiler under the valve cover, see pictures. Is it an aftermarket or homemade device?
The two horizontal tubes have small holes at the 6 intake valves. Does anyone know what is this? And what is its function?
Thanks, Mihaly

Mihaly,
My 31 does not have anything like that. I have never seen anything like that in any manuals either. Looks home made to me. Apparently someone wanted / needed more oil on the the rocker assembly.

That is most likely custom made, i have a friend that did something similar on his 1929 but think his drips on the push rod side. seems like dripping oil on the valves would keep them lubed, but would also suck it in and burn up in combustion chamber.

i have some photos at home.

are your plugs black or covered in carbon/ oil ?

An attempt to lube the rocker tip to valve stem contact point. Original design does not provide for this except by splash or vaporized oil. I have an aftermarket version made specifically for early Chev and if I get a chance I'll photo and post.

Thanks for Your responses.
My plugs are grey, no oil on them. The tailpipe is nice grey too. I see small amount of carbon in the combustion chamber and on the top of the piston on the endoscope camera, but it seems normal to me. The engine smoked at idle before, but I adjusted the carburetor, and it works fine now.
I think the oiler drips oil onto the rocker arms at the intake valves, and they splash the oil, especially at higher RPM-s. I think, but I do not know. I see to drip very small amount of oil when the engine is idling, and I see oil splash on the manifold at higher RPM, but not much at all.
I would like to see some photos, post them please!
Thanks again, Mihaly
