What years did Chevy use the singe line logo hubcaps (as opposed to the bow tie logo)? (trying to identify the year of a rear end) Does anyone know the history of why just the single line was used?

Hub caps can be from another rear end brakes and wheels and third member might be a better way to find out the year... photos here of all those parts would probably get an ID...

The single line logo was used on aftermarket items intended for Chevrolets instead of the bow-tie.

Photo(s) or any raised numbers or a detailed description can help us ID the rear end. Type of brakes (internal-external), number of lugs, springs or perches will help in the description.

I have some single line hub caps that fit the 18" 32-33 wheels. I was told they were reproductions made in Argentina .

The engines in the photos I think are 1927 and 28, so I’m guessing the rear end is in the neighborhood

Two of the motors have one one intake, as opposed to the two on the one on the buzzrig. I had thought those were earlier. Is there a place I can check the serial numbers?

There is a casting date on the block. It is located near the distributor and consists of three elements; a single letter, a number (1-31), and a single number.

The letter designates the month that the block was cast in. A=Jan, B=Feb, etc.
The middle number is the day of the month.
The last single number is the year. 6=1926, 7=1927, 8=1928

The heads that have two exhaust ports are from 1928.

The single exhaust port heads had a tendency to crack due to the amount of heat going through the single orifice. As a result, when a single port head cracked, some folks back in the day replaced it with a '28 head on the older block because they just bolt on and run cooler. Besides, the '28 head has larger valves. ;-)

They would have to change the push rod length slightly and move the exhaust pipe towards the firewall, but those were the only modifications needed.

It is not that uncommon to see a '28 head on an older block.

Cheers, Dean

Great information, I'll check the motors when I get home. Thanks.
