Is there a special nack to unsoldering the capillary tube that runs from the sender to the oil temperature gauge of a 47-53 truck and then reattaching it back to another gauge?? I would like to swap out the tattered cluster with one of nicer original condition. Thanks in advance. This club is terrific!!

I have no clue personally but I'll move this to a forum where you'll get more answers.

I agree with Gene. The water temperature sensing bulb and gauge function as a sealed unit. It is filled with ether. The pressure increases as the temperature in reases. That pressure increase moves the needle. There are a few specialists who can repair them.

I dont remember there being an "oil temp" guage as standard fitting (only after market fitting) in any Chev, the temp guage I know of was for coolant temp and as Gene said it is generally not a diy job to make work properly if the tube gets cut or broken. Tony
