Within a few weeks I plan to have the car on the road with plates. NY requires a front plate. What is the best way to mount it? The front upright bumper parts that I have are actually for the rear so they do not have a threaded nut in them to mount a rod between them like some I have seen. (I had terrible front ones and four good rear ones so I used them). I am not a fan of zip tying it to the grill but may need to as a temporary solution unless I come up with something better. Attached a pic to show what I have to mount it on.

I have found that having an old car is a constant project that is never done. I think that is a good thing. Keeps me learning new things. Having two from different eras is just a form of higher education.
VCCA members have access to a list of over 50 Technical Advisors who can help you with your car. It's worth the price of membership! While you can get a lot of information for free in this forum, sometimes the info that you REALLY need is only available from the right person. This is what "The World's Best Chevrolet Club" is all about!
When the car has the correct front bumper and guards there is a bar between the guards that includes a bracket for mounting the plate.
That might be my issue. I have the correct parts for much of the bumper. Unfortunately the bumper was bent prior to me getting it. Some of the parts were mangled beyond use or rusted to the point of no return. This car was in a barn and most of the parts where stored in the car. Unfortunately the bumper was left on the ground elsewhere. The bumper itself and mounts were corrected to useable but not quite correct shape. The wings on the ends and the uprights I received from else where, thought they looked good. The lights where also bought elsewhere.
I guess it may be a case of get creative with scrap metal and a grinder then.

For what it is worth in PA back in the day you ran a front and rear license plate. My front bumper was predrilled with 2 holes for the front bracket kinda down under. I found a matching set of 1947 plates which we can run in PA and I have the front one on with a bracket I think was original. I looked in my parts book and they are listed under group 7.796 and the part number for 41 is 3658840. One year only.
