I member of our club needs a new tube for her 33 Chevy, 5.50X18. Where is the best place to purchase tubes and the rim liners to cover the spoke ends around the inner rim? She needs a rubber stem.....I see offset mentioned, the valves on the 33 are not offset are they ?

The stems are offset on my '35 Standard with 17' wheels.

You can purchase tubes and rim liners from Coker Tire or Universal Tire.

The stems on my '33 are not offset although I have a couple extra wheels that have been converted by drilling a new hole in the side of the rim. The ones that are not offset look a lot better but are harder to check and inflate. I think the non offset tubes are harder to find but I think they are available.

The tubes I got from Coker for my 32 using 550/18 tires are 450/500-18/19 center rubber stem tubes. That is what they recommended. Don't depend on them to go by application as when I did that they sent me offset stem tubes.

Thanks for all your input, she contacted Coker and they were very pleasant and helpful.

I just ordered center stem metal stem tubes for my 33 from Universal and MIKE was awesome.

Now, how do I change the 40 year old tubes that have gone flat? Never changed a tube before believe it or not ……

Jeff

Jeff,
Are you replacing the tubes and using the same tires?

That was my plan. Is that not a good idea? The tires have maybe 1,000 miles on them since new in 1985.

Tires that old have deteriorated to the point that they are only good enough to keep the wheels off the ground. The rubber will be much harder than new tires and almost surely be destroyed by the pounding on any road surface. That is if they survive the attempt to dismount them to remove and replace the tubes. Personal safety is far more important than the cost of new tires.

Ugh. Then what tires. I know the whitewall vs blackwall debate. I want whitewalls. But what brand? How to choose?

The tires on my car (in avatar) were installed in 1975.
